Hon. Raphael Magyezi, Minister of Local Government yesterday held a meeting with the Director General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Dr. Qu Dongyu in an engagement aimed at exploring potential areas of cooperation between the FAO and the Government of Uganda.

In his remarks, Dr. Dongyu emphasized improving livelihoods at the grassroots level, noting that unresolved rural challenges could impact urban areas. He encouraged Uganda to embrace Clustered production of similar crops by farmers, to facilitate bulk marketing, both regionally and globally. He pledged FAO’s support to Uganda in advancing agricultural and sustainability initiatives.
Representing Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, Minister Magyezi reiterated that President Museveni’s vision for wealth creation, prosperity, and food security through initiatives like irrigation, value addition, agro-industrialization, and local vaccine production. In the Prime Minister’s address, delivered by Magyezi, she urged the FAO to support Uganda in extending climate-resilient agricultural initiatives, particularly to the youth.
Hon Magyezi also advocated for urban farming as part of greening the Cities; stating that “Being urban does not mean you cannot feed yourself,”
The meeting was attended by the Minister of State for Animal Industry and officials from KCCA, MAAIF, OPM and MoLG.
