The official launch of the National Oilseeds Project(NOSP) in Otuke district marks a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to enhance rural infrastructure and boost local economic development.

The 16.9km Community Access Road, covering Ogor and Okwang Sub-counties, connected Omwonylee Primary School in Atat Village to Anik Market through the Ameri–Abongower–Cungapenyi–Okore route. Constructed by M/S GAT Consults Ltd at a cost of UGX 1.62 billion, the road was expected to be completed by October 25, 2025.

The launch was officiated by Otuke Woman MP, Hon. Susan Jolly Abeja, who appreciated the Government and the Ministry of Local Government for selecting Otuke as a beneficiary under the National Oilseeds Project (NOSP). She noted that the roads under construction had long been impassable for the local community.

The event drew high-level participation, including the NOSP Technical team led by Hajji Yasin Sendaula and the Commissioner for District Inspection, Stephen Koma. Also present were CAOs, RDCs, District Engineers, and Community Development Officers from the benefiting districts, who came to witness the project launch.

The Commissioner for Local Economic Development, Anthony Namara, represented the Minister for Local Government, Hon. Raphael Magyezi, and the Permanent Secretary, Ben Kumumanya.

In his address, PS Kumumanya emphasized, “This road directly supports two key pillars of the Parish Development Model Pillar 1 on Production, Storage, Processing and Marketing, and Pillar 2 on Infrastructure and Economic Services. As a government, we are aligning development efforts to make a real impact on household incomes and improve livelihoods across Uganda.”

The road featured 49 concrete encased culverts, climate resilient designs, and a gravel surface with a 7.3m width. It was part of the 1,034km of roads under NOSP Batch A, jointly implemented by the Ministry of Local Government and MAAIF in 81 districts.
